Asbestos cement sheets were widely used in the construction of garage roofs and can still be found in many different buildings built before 1999. Asbestos roof removal requires a professional service to ensure that it is carried out safely. We provide a full removal and re-roofing service and are licensed to safely remove and dispose of asbestos cement materials. We adhere to strict procedures when carrying out work of this type.
If your roof is made of grey corrugated material as pictured below, and does not contain the stamp NT then it may well be asbestos cement. As part of our service we identify the sheets you have on your garage. If there is any doubt we will sample and test the material.
We recommend removal and replacement of asbestos cement roof sheets rather than over cladding or over painting. Over cladding involves fixing through the old sheeting if it is to remain secure during storms. This involves drilling the old sheets which is not recommended due to potential contamination. Over painting involves preparation which releases asbestos fibres, it seldom works and increases condensation.
We conform to HSE Notification as required when removing and disposing of cement asbestos material. We are certified by SEPA (Scottish Environment and Protection Agency) and all our staff are trained in the proper handling, transportation and disposal of asbestos cement and our site staff all undergo regular medical surveillance.
